Ruella worked directly with struggling students as a Supplemental Academic Instruction (SAI) tutor, taking the lowest-performing students and helping them achieve grade-level standards. She understands the importance of measurable results and accountability to the public.
Together, they served for 8 years on the School Advisory Council at Westside Elementary, working alongside administrators, teachers, and parents to improve their local public school. They attended budget meetings. They wrestled with compliance requirements.
